Script: The path to a degree goes through English courses
Part 1: Why is it mandatory?
Congratulations on starting your degree at Ono Academic College!
Now, let's get to the bottom of one of the most important topics: English courses.
It is important to understand – you cannot receive the degree without completing all English requirements.
This is not an elective course, but a required course that gives you practical tools to read articles and integrate into the global work world.
Part 2: Where do you start? (Selection tests)
So how do you know what level you are at?
You are automatically registered for the beginner English level, pre-basic.
If you have a psychometric or AmirNet score, the level will be determined according to the score you received on the test.
Our tip : It is a good idea to register for the AmirNet test independently before starting your studies. Improving your score can boost your score, save you time, and even reduce the number of courses you need later on.
What is this test?
AMERINT is a computer-based English proficiency test that is used as a screening tool in academic institutions.
Those interested in taking the Amirante exam can register for the exam through the MAL website, and take it at MAL exam centers across the country.
Please note: You can register for the test multiple times, but you must wait at least 35 days between each exam.

Part 3: The Level Scale
How many English courses do you need to take for your degree?
The number of courses is determined by your English score – on the psychometric or AmirNet test.
For the degree, you will need to take at least two English courses, and in the maximum case – up to four courses.
The route is structured like a four-step ladder:
- Pre-basic
- basic
- Advanced A
- Advanced B
Each course is a prerequisite for the next course.
Only one course level can be taken each semester.
The good news: The last course on the scale, the "Advanced B" course, is an academic course and there is no need to register for it; you are automatically assigned to it by the student administrator and it is at no additional cost.
So how does it work?
If you received an English score on the psychometric or AmirNet test that places you at a lower level – you will start at a pre-basic level, and progress step by step to Advanced B. In this case, you will need to complete four courses.
Another example is the case of a high score – if your English level is Advanced A, you will be required to take Advanced A and B courses.
On the other hand, if you received a very high score, one that results in an exemption in English, you will still be required to take two English enrichment courses, as part of your degree requirements.
This means that no matter what your English level, every degree student must take at least two English courses.
Part 4: How do you register and study? (Online or Zoom)
Registration for English courses is done independently, before the start of each semester.
You must enter the website, and under the courses category, there is registration for elective English courses.
You have two options to choose from:
- Online course: Independent learning through the "Model" website. A course that is structured with content units and intermediate assignments - suitable for those who know how to manage their time on their own.
- Zoom course: Weekly class with a Zoom instructor. Great for those who need a framework and interaction.
Please note: Before you enroll in a course, regardless of whether it is online or Zoom, you must check that it fits properly into your school schedule, and that there is no conflict between the hours of the English courses and its support sessions and the hours of your degree courses during the semester.
For students with an appropriate diagnosis, a customized English course is held by the Matna Center. Registration for this course is through contacting the Matna Center website.
Part 5: Registration, Money and Laws
Listen carefully, this is the technical part:
- Before the start of each semester and up to two weeks after the start of the semester, you need to log in to the website and register for the course independently.
- As mentioned, you have a short window of opportunity from the beginning of the semester.
- Remember: All courses (except the last one) have a financial cost, and the goal is to complete them all by the end of the second year with a grade of 60 or higher.
- Another important point to emphasize is that registration for each course is based on available space – so it is your responsibility to register as soon as possible for a course that fits your schedule and academic schedule.
Part 6: Special Case – Exemption
If you are assigned to an English exemption level, you must take two English enrichment courses – they are not at an additional cost.
Registration for these enrichment courses is done through the Student Administrator. You must contact them through the website to request to be enrolled in these courses.
They must be completed by the end of the degree.
Summary and assistance
It is important to understand : The first three courses in English are taught online, and the last course – Advanced B – is already an academic course that is integrated into the degree's schedule.
Therefore, it is important to take the Amirante test as early as possible, so that you can be placed in courses according to your level, before the start of the semester.
In certain tracks, the Advanced B course takes place at a regular stage in the degree and is part of your schedule, so a delay in completing the English levels may prevent placement in the Advanced B course with your track, and then a separate placement in the course will be required that is not necessarily within the framework of your regular study days.
