Using emotion regulation and problem-solving skills from dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) in rehabilitation work

About the course:

"If I managed to get myself out of hell, I will find a way for others to get out of there too."

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based therapy that belongs to the third wave of CBT. It is a groundbreaking therapeutic approach in treating people who are dealing with complex mental difficulties, including: chronic suicidality, borderline personality disorder, addictions, eating disorders, complex trauma, and more. DBT sees difficulty in emotional regulation as a central reason why we use behaviors that cause us suffering in the long term. In order to increase the effectiveness of treatment with populations dealing with these complexities, DBT has a unique therapeutic structure and includes joint and systematic work at eye level. As part of the treatment, behavioral and cognitive skills are taught in combination with dialectical skills and skills from the world of Zen Buddhism, which together help a person reduce suffering, increase happiness, and realize a life worth living, as he/she perceives it.

During the course, we will learn about dialectical behavioral therapy and its assumptions. We will dedicate time to learning and practicing the basic principles of behavioral therapy and will also learn selected DBT skills, in a manner adapted to rehabilitation work with service recipients in various rehabilitation fields. In accordance with the basic dialectic of acceptance and change, we will learn skills that support acceptance processes (attentiveness - which allows us to perfect our work with our "autopilot"; and resilience in distress - which allows us to survive in times of crisis without worsening it). We will also learn skills that support change processes (interpersonal effectiveness - which allows us to act effectively in building and maintaining healthy relationships and ending destructive relationships; emotional regulation - which allows us to become familiar with emotions and the cognitive and physiological processes associated with them, and to influence them). In addition to theoretical study, course participants will experience using the skills and facilitating the learning of skills themselves. Towards the end of the course, we will discuss the use of telephone coaching and adapting the learning of skills to the settings in which the participants work.

The authorities of the judiciary in Israel are divided between the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court serves as an appellate instance for judgments of the District Courts in Israel, and as a High Court of Justice. When sitting as a High Court of Justice, it hears appeals against the decisions of the District Courts, the Magistrates Courts and the Religious Courts. There are three types of appeals: the High Court of Justice, District Courts and Magistrate Courts.

The powers of the judiciary are influenced by the changes in the powers of the investigative authorities and the prosecuting authorities, in order to allow scrutiny and expansion on the history of the judiciary and its influence in the State of Israel.
