Rehabilitation Course for Victims of Sexual Trauma – Theory and Practice
About the course
In recent years, we have witnessed an increasing number of applications from those dealing with post-trauma due to sexual assault to rehabilitation programs. About a decade ago, dedicated services for victims of sexual trauma began to develop, with the understanding that this population needs a unique response.
The course is designed to provide knowledge and practical tools to rehabilitation teams in order to provide tailored support to this population, which is in various rehabilitation frameworks.
People suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder due to sexual assault have difficulty building relationships and building trust, which undermines their ability to promote rehabilitation processes based on interpersonal relationships. In addition, the severe symptoms suffered by people diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder make it significantly more difficult for this population to function well in the community, and they find themselves moving from one setting to another and having great difficulty integrating.
The course will include in-depth theoretical knowledge regarding the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder and complex post-traumatic stress disorder.
In addition, various practices will be demonstrated that will help staff members accompany those in rehabilitation. We will discuss complex issues and the many challenges in the rehabilitation process. All of this in order to help those in rehabilitation move toward a future where they do not just survive, but live and fulfill themselves.
However, it is important to note that this course does not make its participants experts in the field of trauma. In order to promote this expertise, it is necessary to continue to deepen training in this field and also to accompany these workers with guidance from trauma experts.
Course objectives
Familiarity with the field of trauma and understanding of the principles of trauma-sensitive organization.
Introduction to the characteristics of post-traumatic stress disorder and complex post-traumatic stress disorder.
Characteristics of relationships with people dealing with post-trauma on a sexual basis, transference relationships, reconstructions.

The current course starts from these starting assumptions and allows students to learn skills that will help them support the rehabilitation and recovery processes of service recipients.
The first part of the course will review and invite practice of basic principles of the first wave ( behavioral therapy ) and the second wave ( cognitive therapy ) of cognitive-behavioral therapy. The course will then use these principles to learn selected interventions and skills from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), which belong to the third wave of CBT.
Course objectives
The student will learn key concepts from the behavioral approach and how to identify them in their own behavior and that of service recipients.
The student will learn to identify types of thoughts and how to use Socratic questioning effectively.
The student will learn how to use the matrix (from ACT) to help service recipients live values-oriented lives.
The student will learn how to use selected skills of mindfulness, resilience to distress, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness (from DBT) to help service recipients improve their ability to use their emotions and improve relationships.
The student will use the skills learned in and between classes, with himself and with service recipients at his workplace.

Training course for mental health rehabilitation teams working with people dealing with dual morbidity - mental illness and addictions
About the course
The term "dual morbidity" refers to a person coping with a mental disorder alongside an addiction to psychoactive substances and/or behavioral addiction. The two disorders may appear simultaneously, or one after the other, and there is an interrelationship between them. In addition, each of the coping mechanisms has its own unique characteristics and challenges, and together they have a decisive impact on the person and their environment (Rabinovich Shenkar, 2020).
Teams and organizations that provide a response to those eligible for the rehabilitation basket are increasingly meeting in various services with those dealing with dual morbidity, and the need for specialization and receiving tools to provide a professional, integrative, and holistic rehabilitation-therapeutic response to all complexities is increasing.
The Dual Morbidity Course is designed for rehabilitation workers who are interested in expanding their understanding of working with people dealing with dual morbidities. The course is a basic course that allows learners to evaluate and reshape their beliefs and perceptions of their work, expand their worlds of knowledge, and experiment with various and diverse tools in the field of dual morbidities - mental coping and addictions.

Rehabilitation work with people dealing with mental and cognitive disabilities - understanding and implementation
About the course :
Cognitive structure and abilities are the basis for human behavior and function. Normal cognition helps a person acquire knowledge from the outside world, process it, and use it, with the nervous system and human brain being responsible for the broad range of these abilities. Every person is required to demonstrate current functional skills in their daily routine, which include, among other things: use of memory, ability to divide attention, retrieval of words from memory as needed, planning thinking, time estimation, orientation in space and place, visual perception and self-awareness, and more. Some people who deal with both mental and cognitive disabilities suffer from a significant deterioration in the level of participation in daily activities, in functional-executive abilities, and in learning processes.
The course will place great emphasis on the practice of rehabilitation work. The course will be accompanied by examples and experiences for the purpose of integrating the course materials with practical and applied intervention in rehabilitation workplaces.

Doing, succeeding, and learning – learning from successes as a worldview, as a learning tool, and as a practice that promotes recovery
About the course :
Learning from success is a learning tool that allows you to discover and document actions that have produced successes in order to repeat them and adapt them in other systems. As a worldview, learning from success invites positive and optimistic thinking, finding strengths and opportunities, a spirit of appreciation and appreciation, and a practical approach that seeks to discern concrete actions that contribute to successful changes. The method, from the school of Prof. Yona Rosenfeld, is based on reflective learning that looks back in depth on the actions taken, and compiles them into principles of action that generalize and simplify the main points of action.
Learning from success processes are based on the assumption that continuous learning is an important component of organizational development and the creation of innovative approaches and interventions. In recent years, learning from success has been integrated into the field of mental health in a multidimensional way as a worldview for working with people, as a tool for learning about successful interventions, and as a practice that promotes recovery.
In the learning sessions we will hold, we will describe the successes we have achieved, look at the knowledge we have about our work, discuss our unique and shared practice as individuals and as a group, and discover our ways of learning in light of learning about learning.

Tools to drive change
About the course
Motivation for change is a significant component that affects the processes of rehabilitation, integration, and recovery. However, many times when meeting with service recipients, the person has difficulty choosing, achieving, or maintaining a significant goal for change. Motivation has many components. Familiarity with these components may help the person understand their personal motives for and against change, and may even help them understand what is holding them back. Models for motivating change provide personal research processes for the person and the change facilitator that can focus their need, desire, ability, and knowledge toward change. This research process also helps in recruiting and building internal motivation for change.
The course will teach two tools : motivational interviewing and the tool for assessing and developing readiness for rehabilitation. Tools that constitute significant preparation for building a personal plan in situations of impasse and/or ambivalence in the context of building a personal plan. These models will enrich the employee's rehabilitation perception and provide practical tools that support the process.
The motivational interview
Motivational interviewing is a leading and evidence-based tool for driving behavioral change in a variety of areas. Motivational interviewing assists in exploring and resolving ambivalence toward change from an accepting and respectful stance, helps to free oneself from outbursts and mobilize internal resources toward change. The tool uses strategies to increase motivation and strengthen commitment to change, while addressing work with resistance and strengthening a person's confidence in their ability to change. It is an applied tool that combines techniques for building motivation toward change.
Readiness Assessment and Development Model
A rehabilitation readiness assessment is a structured and systematic process that is conducted individually. Its purpose is to help a person obtain an up-to-date picture of their motivation and knowledge towards building a personal plan and understanding the factors that hinder and promote change.
The assessment process examines the internal and external motivation for change. The process is done in partnership when the person is in a process of self-exploration and reflection and the professional enables, supports, encourages, and directs for authentic self-reflection. The rehabilitation professional is in a position of active listening that allows him and the person to embark on the process together from an informed starting point and greater control over the process.
The model was developed at the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Boston University and brought to Israel under the auspices of YSPRA, the Ministry of Health, and the University of Haifa.
Course objectives
Familiarity with models that help a person gain a deeper understanding of the factors that hinder and promote change. Acquisition of knowledge, tools, and skills in the work of a rehabilitation counselor using these models.
Course structure
7 consecutive teaching sessions that will include the motivational interviewing model and the rehabilitation readiness assessment and development model, and 4 training and enrichment sessions.

Rehabilitation work with people with multiple disabilities
About the course
In recent years, we have witnessed the integration of people with multiple disabilities into the rehabilitation system, including people who also deal with autism, cognitive impairment, head injuries, and attention and behavioral disorders. In light of this, there is a renewed thinking and change processes underway in the perception of psychiatric rehabilitation for these people. Collaborations have been created between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Social Affairs, in the form of joint regional committees. More and more people with multiple disabilities are eligible to receive a "rehabilitation basket" for their psychiatric disability. At the same time, most mental health rehabilitation services in the community are not prepared to provide a response to the needs arising from the other disabilities that the person is dealing with, and as a result, this population has difficulty receiving appropriate responses to their associated needs. In light of this, it is important to make information and knowledge about additional disabilities accessible, and to become in-depth familiar with the existing supports in the community, outside of the rehabilitation basket.
Course Objective
A deep understanding of the challenges, needs and strengths of people who deal with multiple disabilities, including people who also deal with autism, cognitive impairment, head injuries and attention and behavioral disorders, and receiving tools for adapted rehabilitation work. Receiving information about rights and benefits that can be provided outside the "rehabilitation basket". Thinking about collaborations and methods of implementation in rehabilitation frameworks.

Trauma and Recovery: Trauma-Sensitive Rehabilitation in Mental Health - Theory and Practice
About the course
Studies show that many of those dealing with mental illnesses and mental disorders have experienced trauma in the past (48%-98%), and many suffer from post-traumatic symptoms (26%-40%) that may affect the rehabilitation and recovery processes (Mueser et al., 2004; 1998). However, studies also show that post-traumatic growth, promoting meaning in life, and increasing coping skills - all of these are possible processes in mental health, alongside the possibility of recovery (Mazor, Gelkopf, Roe, 2018 Mazor, Gelkopf, Roe & Mueser, 2016;). These processes depend on diverse aspects related to the person, their environment, and the rehabilitation professional and the processes he enables and promotes in trauma-sensitive rehabilitation work. The person's ability to define themselves beyond their mental coping and to see their recovery, as well as their growth through various means - all of these are the basis of the current course.
The course will focus on diverse aspects related to the world of mental health and possible encounters with phenomena from the world of trauma; dealing with symptoms of mental illness alongside stress and crisis situations, processes of searching for meaning, coping styles, and growth. In addition, there will be a focus on the connection between theory and practice, an introduction to trauma-sensitive work models and tools that are adapted to the world of rehabilitation, and a characterization of unique rehabilitation processes. Special attention will be given to the topic of sexual trauma, the rehabilitation-therapeutic continuum, and knowledge from experience.
The course is based on case studies from the students' field, their analysis and active discussion in class, practice, and finally a tutorial-workshop process at the end of each day.
Course objectives :
The students were able to identify, connect, and demonstrate theories of trauma and their connection to rehabilitation and recovery processes in the community.
Students will be able to explain, identify, assess, and implement trauma-sensitive processes in the field of mental health rehabilitation, using evidence-based tools that are used daily in the field of community rehabilitation (such as rehabilitation programs, etc.).
Students will be able to describe, explain, and examine the treatment-rehabilitation continuum in mental health. Students will be able to detail and indicate the connection between theoretical learning and experiential knowledge, to what is happening in their field of work (for example: how to work effectively by referring to specialist treatment providers while maintaining a rehabilitation continuum).
